Thank you Julia, and happy Monday!
Julia Gaudinski
37:23

Julia Gaudinski
39:59
RFP = Request for Proposal - it explains the criteria and eligibility and what the funder is looking for
Julia Gaudinski
44:53
Please put questions in the chat or raise your hand and we can call on you
Ruvani Fonseka (she/her/hers)
46:28
Would it be possible for us to reach out to you to be connected to previous awardees? And has anyone at SJSU received early career awards from the NIH?
Vishnu Pendyala
47:03
If I have a research proposal in mind but not sure where to apply for a grant, can we just email you?
Janet Bang (she/her)
47:52
That’s helpful thank you!
Ruvani Fonseka (she/her/hers)
50:02
Thank you!
Julia Gaudinski
51:02
MOST NIH grants at SJSU have been R21, R15s and Scores which are now becoming SuRe - we can definitely connect you with faculty who have gotten those and who have been involved with R1s
Vishnu Pendyala
52:06
Thank you!
Julia Gaudinski
52:13
We have not gotten an NIH K that I have seen in my tenure - but we would love to work with to be the first!
Julia Gaudinski
53:17
Sorry I cannot connect to audio due to tech challenges!
Ruvani Fonseka (she/her/hers)
53:41
Thank you Julia - that was going to be my follow-up quesiton!
Vishnu Pendyala
54:20
What are the key differences between Research Grants (R series) and Career Development Awards (K series) and why haven’t we received any K awards
Julia Gaudinski
55:39
K’s require dedicated research amounts (75%) which have been challenging but we are trying to make those possible
Vishnu Pendyala
56:28
Thanks!
Julia Gaudinski
56:34
We can make that happen here at SJSU (i.e. the 75%) but it takes planning - so talk with us and your ADRs
Emma Attard
58:01
Please fill out our brief, anonymous, feedback survey on today's presentation - https://forms.gle/r8HUChE1V6y2UjREA
Vishnu Pendyala
58:34
Since CPGE doesn’t have assigned staff, who do I email with my questions?
Julia Gaudinski
59:17
Vishnu feel free to start with me.
Janet Bang (she/her)
59:23
I heard that the Spencer Foundation would have some mid-range amounts that could be good if some preliminary data is already available
Vishnu Pendyala
59:58
Thanks, Julia. Will do.
Emma Attard
01:02:02
One more time for the survey! https://forms.gle/r8HUChE1V6y2UjREA
Janet Bang (she/her)
01:03:11
If I’ve submitted an LOI for a foundation, but I’m still waiting to hear back, at what point should I be planning for another grant?
Julia Gaudinski
01:03:16
Any other questions - thoughts?
Ruvani Fonseka (she/her/hers)
01:03:50
Janet’s question makes me wonder - are we allowed to propose the same project to different funders? Or do we have to wait like we do with publications?
Julia Gaudinski
01:03:59
Does everyone know how to get started?
Janet Bang (she/her)
01:05:38
That would have been my next question too =). Thank you for your responses!
Julia Gaudinski
01:06:21
I have seen people do this but you have to be very careful and if on gets funded you must disclose that to the other.
Julia Gaudinski
01:06:33
Sorry - if one gets funded…
Ruvani Fonseka (she/her/hers)
01:09:33
