Faculty and event organizers have the right to require all students or participants to use a neutral background image during online meetings and class sessions, or to turn off their camera.

I'm an SJSU grad student. I'm not involved in social media myself, but I wonder: Under what circumstances would a student be punished or "censured" for online speech outside the academic sphere? How does that culpability or liability differ from students to faculty or staff members?
