Sondra Sherman: Jewelry Talks - Thought to Form
Sondra Sherman’s expressive works are informed by an expansive concept of the language of jewelry and the context of the body/wearer. Everyone wears jewelry. Everyone notices jewelry. What does it say? The effect of jewelry exceeds it scale through wearability- its moving about in the world. Not confined to a gallery space, our perception of jewelry changes with the personal identity of the viewer/wearer and the social group or situation in which it is encountered. Sherman’s talk will elaborate on the conversations of jewelry which are grounded in empathy and open to all.

Sherman is an Associate Professor of Art and Program Head for Jewelry + Metalwork at San Diego State University. She earned her Masters at Munich Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, Germany, and her artwork has been included in several books such as: "Beyond Bling: Jewelry from the Lois Boardman Collection" (2016, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA); "Unique by Design: Contemporary Jewelry in the Donna Schneier Collection" (2014, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY); and numerous notable periodicals.
